This looks partly like a fear of dealing with competition in the workplace. I had to learn to do this as woman entering the male workforce environment. I have lived there all my life, and it is hard. It is one reason I have come to understand what men go through everyday at work. Many of us are there now. We are changing what is in the work environment slowly, but some people want to live as US women and men lived in the 50s, or maybe even before those years. Some people worship the way the ancient city of Rome operated (depends on timeperiod though). People try to live certain ways. They succeed to the extent a lifestyle can be maintained over time. What lifestyles can be sustained by everyday people over the longterm. Is Christian Wife one of those lifestyles? Is Working Woman? I say yes to both because it seems we have different kinds of women, some who can opt out of the man-work environment to just creating a home and worshipping a man-god and some who go out into the man-world, change it as we need, and work with our brothers. This is definitely a social change, and can be uncomfortable or unfamilar to some, as you say.
